So... Zelda Classic eh? Zelda Classic (https://zeldaclassic.com) is a fangame by Armageddon Games that aimed to bring the Zelda 1 experience to the PC back in the early 2000s. That sounds kinda boring, though... why not just use an emulator? Well, the really exciting part is that the game came with a full Quest editor called ZQuest, which allowed you to make completely custom games in the Zelda 1 engine, and that's where the game REALLY shines! When I was young, like 9-10 years old, I would be babysat occasionally by my step-mom's ex-husband. It was a very complicated situation, I'm sure, but my kiddo brain just knew there was a computer I was free to use there. The PC was full of the usual shareware (including a menu shell that I still have yet to find a copy of...), but the BIG thing was a Game Boy emulator called NO$GMB. As a child, I didn't KNOW it was an emulator, just that I could play Pokemon on the PC, including a fan translation of Pokemon Gold YEARS before the actual game came out! Fast forward a year, and on my 11th birthday, I was gifted my very first full-fledged computer. It was ancient even for its time; it had to have been a 386 or 486, and ran Windows 3.1 right out of the box, but pre-set up was NO$GMB and a selection of ROMs, including The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I KNEW of this game previously from the guide in the Super Game Boy guidebook, but this was my first time playing, and as far as I knew, it was a native PC port of the game, and was as official as the cart itself. A few years later, and a few households later, I find myself on the internet at 13 or so, trying to find this game. I searched for "Zelda game PC", and not only did I learn about emulators, homebrew and rom hacking, I also learned about Zelda Classic, which I played WELL into adulthood, and I keep finding myself coming back to even today. Zelda Classic is the "Zelda Maker" that players secretly want, but do not know exists. It is incredibly powerful, and the games on there have made for some wonderful memories. Here, on this page, I plan on sharing my thoughts as I strive to play through as many of the quests as I can, with the ultimate goal of playing (and hopefully beating but that's not always possible) EVERY Zelda Classic quest. I plan on posting basic reviews as well, along with a download to the actual quest (in case PureZC or ZeldaClassic doesn't have it) |
